The past is the past.
Since the shunt malfuntion/surgery mistake, we have been slowly trying to rebuild what was broken down. We changed neurosurgeons. We now have a FABULOUS neurosurgeon. At the advice of our neurologist, we went to see a neuropsychologist. We learned a lot of new things. He has been diagnosed with ADHD, dysgraphia and depression. We were advised for him to start seeing a counselor because he is very aware of his medical conditions and disabilities. They said he knows that his life will be very hard. I have sat him down and explained to him, while his life will most certainly be hard, it will be wonderful because he is our baby boy and we love him and will help him in any way possible. He is a happy boy most of the time and he now has an emotional support animal named Stella.

Susan, I'm so impressed by this blog. My mom shared it with me and I hate to admit, but I really wasn't aware of Perrin still having any difficulties. I'm so glad you have decided to share his story and yours with the rest of the world - what a great blog this is for parents in similar situations. Your positivity is surely contagious and I know it will certainly help others cope with their situations. You are a wonderful mommy! I'm so very proud of you and your family! <3 you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lara! Sometimes it doesn't feel that he has "life threatening" disabilities but then we have a setback like yesterday and it brings things back to prospective. We just live day to day with our same old routine because it is easier to just keep him on routine. If he has to suddenly deviate, he gets moody and defiant. Thanks for reading and I love you too!
