Happy Birthday Perrin!!

This Christmas Eve, Perrin will be 10 years old! I often reflect upon his birth. How scared his Dad and I were and how helpless we felt. We just kept telling him we loved him and how brave he was. I remember when he was just a couple of hours old and I had my hand resting on his open warmer, he reached up and grabbed my finger. I know he couldn't have seen more than blurs and shapes but in that moment, I knew that he was a fighter. I knew he was not going to give up, but he needed my help. So we made sure no one else gave up either. 10 years, 13 surgeries, countless therapy sessions later... I love my boy more than anything in the world (with the exception of his siblings and their dad) He is growing up to be a wonderful young man, so polite and happy.

He has come a long way. From this:

To this!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PERRIN!!! We love you with all of our heart!

Love,

Mommy, Daddy, Alek and Julianna

With great power comes great responsibility

Of course this title refers to the legendary Stan "The Man" Lee. While planning our upcoming trip to the Awesomeness that is Austin Comic Con and Dallas Fan Days, I figured that I would fill you in on our FABULOUS trip to Dallas Comic Con this past May. It was AWESOME! We, of course, met Stan Lee!! It was EASILY the highlight of our trip. I still "geek-out" about it. We were so excited to meet him.

Stan "The Man" Lee
Seriously, Dallas Comic Con was wonderful. The staff was informative and helpful. A ton of people were in costume, including my kiddos! Alek was Iron Man, Julianna was Black Widow (as seen above complete with guns.) and Perrin was Captain America (to meet Stan Lee, then a quick costume change later, he was a Jedi).

Because we love everything Comic Book and Star Wars, Mommy and Daddy choose to spend their 10th wedding anniversary heading up to Dallas to bring the kids to Comic Con. We had been planning it for months. It was our first Comic Con and we figured Dallas was a good start and who could miss it with the line up that they had! Stan Lee, Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), Dave Prowse (Actor inside of the Darth Vader suit), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Adam West (orginal Batman), Burt Ward (Robin), and Patrick Stewart (Professor X and Jean Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation)

Here are a few pictures of our Comic Con adventure:

Alek is IRON MAN!

The calm after a long drive! Gotta rest up for the Awesomeness tomorrow!

IT'S COMIC CON DAY!!!!
The kids know the power of the dark side!

Who would win? Wolverine or Perrin the Jedi?

Alek was so excited Spidey was there!

2 Black Widows!

Rex and Wolf!! HOW AWESOME!

Pre-Costume change but Perrin just had to go get his photo with this clone!

This was the second time we met Mr. Jeremy Bulloch. The first time was Perrin's Make A Wish trip to Disney World for Star Wars Weekend. He is a wonderful person. Perrin really enjoyed talked Star Wars with him both of the times we met him.

Alek: Hulk Smash!
Alek couldn't leave without Hulk grabbing his head too!

We would love to thank Dallas Comic Con and Stan Lee for the wonderful weekend. We had a blast and look forward to Fan Days in October!!

*I was not compensated for this post. All ideas are my own.

Marvel's The Avengers!!

"And there came a day, a day unlike any other... when Earth's mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat... to fight the foes no single superhero could withstand... on that day, The Avengers were born."

So, I have been sitting on this post all week! Today The Avengers came out! BEST MOVIE EVER!!! Seriously! I saw it Monday at a press screening and we took the kids today when they got out of school. Perrin LOVED it and quite a few times, we had to remind him that we were not alone in the theater and to quiet down! LOL. He really gets into his movies!! We saw it at the Galaxy Highland movie theater, which by the way, is one of the best theaters to watch movies at. The theater is very clean, staff is extra friendly and they have DBOX seats. If you don't know what those are, let me fill you in. They are seats that move along with the movie!!! It's showing the Avengers in DBOX right now too!! Well worth the price.

So back to the Avengers. It's action packed and many jokes sprinkled in. Loki is back and is badder than ever. Along with the Tesseract, Loki thinks that he will be the new king of Earth. Loki declares war on Earth and we are defenseless, or are we??? Enter the Avengers, one by one, the team falls in. There are some hiccups with every one trying to get along. Eventually every one comes together for the most epic battle ever. I am trying not to give too much away! Will the good guys prevail, or will evil conquer all? There is only one way to find out! Seriously, this is the best movie of the summer, and it's not even summer yet!!

By the way, please stay all the way until the end of the credits. There is one scene halfway thru the credits, setting up a possible sequel (which I hope and pray is made!!!) but there is another one all the way at the end. You will not be disappointed! Very funny scene. Thank you Joss Whedon for making the Avengers more than I could have imagined!

Avengers Assemble!!!

So, my husband and I were lucky enough to go to a press screening of the new Avengers movie on Monday. No Spoilers, I promise. I can not release a review until Friday but I must say it was AWESOME!!!!! Best movie ever! It has everything! Action, adventure, comedy. I can't wait to see it again and again. It doesn't seem to make a difference if you see it in 3D or 2D. 3D was cool but I'm sure it is still super awesome in 2D. The one hitch in my plan was we had to lie to the kids. If they had know that we went to the Avengers before them, all hell would have and would currently break loose. I have had to hide my ubercool Thor 3D glasses as to not give myself away. Haha. What did we tell the kids we were doing? We said we say Titanic 3D. Lol. So until Friday... Here are some clips to hold you over.

Update on EEG

Perrin went into the hospital a couple of months back for a long term EEG. Hooked up to the monitor for 3 days. Unfortunately, it yielded no results. We have an appointment with our Neurosurgeon next week, so I will be writing down some questions to bring with me. Here are some cute/sad Perrin pictures from our "adventure" of the EEG.

New step for Perrin!

So, Perrin hit a new milestone today, one which he totally took in stride and it didn't even seem like a big deal. He went on his first "solo" birthday party. Just him and 4 of his friends from school and his friends dad. They went to the Lego store at the mall and the ate at the food court and came home. He was so excited to go and it was good to see him stretch his wings and not feel different, nervous or shy! I have to say that he has a great group of friends.

It's always something isn't it?

I know we haven't updated in forever, but we have been dealing with some crazy stuff lately. Perrin has been having some issues in school. He has been having some dazing spells, unable to repeat simple directions, and forgetting where items he uses everyday are. Also, 2 weeks ago, he forgot how to use his pencil. Weird huh?! Well, I've been in contact with both his neurosurgeon ( who suggested an ER visit, complete with CT scan and shunt series X-rays. All clear by the way.) and his neurologist. His neurologist referred us to the video EEG unit. So for 3 days, Perrin will be hooked up to monitors on his scalp and chest. Luckily, he can move around the room, he just can't leave the room. Unluckily, he can't leave his room. Plus, he will be impatient at the hospital for Valentine's Day. That kinda makes me sad cause he is going miss his party with his friends. The upside to his stay is that his room has a tv, DVD player, wifi and a Wii! He was most excited about the Wii and has picked out his 2 favorite games to take with him: Captain America and Star Wars : the force unleashed. Plus, Star Wars Episode 1 in 3D comes out the Friday before he goes in so I know how we will be spending the the weekend before, I'm sure. Hopefully, this gives us an insight on what is going on in his brain and let us deal with what is shown on the outside. Even if the test comes back with seizure activity, we will take this one day at a time. He is still my sweet little boy. Nothing, I mean nothing, will change that. No matter the diagnosis, I will always be there to help him and guide him thru his life, no matter how confusing. I will update more when the testing starts, I promise!
